Winter Celebrations 2022: Community Performances
During Winter Celebrations, in addition to the Winter World lantern labyrinth and ticketed performances, celebrate the holidays with family and friends at one of our FREE community performances inside the Anvil Centre Ballroom! The line-up features a blend of dance, music and singer songwriters, including Chris Clute and Victoria Groff, Jason Qiu, Kevin Lam String Quartet, world renowned Indian classical arts duo, Cassius Khan and Amika Kushwaha, and more.

Stage New West: Student Performers from the Stage Musical Theatre Academy

A variety of student groups of various ages perform musical theatre songs from this local musical theatre school. Unlocking the courage and resilience in each student so that they may achieve their highest potential in the arts and in life. Every student who walks through our doors is inherently creative and carries within themselves talents and ideas that are important to bring to the world. No matter their experience every student brings value to their classes, and we are honored to have them as members of our Stage family.

Holiday ballads performed acoustically on keyboard and vocals. Performing in both Chinese and English, Qiu’s songs are introspective monologues and musings on impactful life experiences conveyed in vulnerable, emotion-laden vocal lines.

25 singers perform in this “show chorus” with 6-part harmony and choreography. The group is made up of individuals ranging in age from 18 to 80 years of age. The Maple Leaf Singers draw its members from all parts of Metro Vancouver.
Cassius Khan & Amika Kushwaha

New West musician Cassius Khan performs classical ghazal/thumri singing and on the tabla. He performs with his wife Amika Kushwaha, a kathak dancer. Canada’s most recognizable Indian Classical musician, the globally renowned Cassius Khan is a performer of combining the Classical styles of Ghazal/Thumri singing and the Tabla, the North Indian pair of drums and presents both, simultaneously. Amika Kushwaha is a performer, choreographer and instructor of Kathak. She is one of the few Kathak artists in Canada who pairs her performances with live musical accompaniment. This live collaboration between dancer and musician enables moments of spontaneity and thus no two performances are ever the same.
