Galvin Cello Quartet: Beyond the Expected

Presented by the Vancouver Chamber Music Society in collaboration with Anvil Theatre

Monday, February 8, 2027 | 1:00 p.m.

With four cellos and limitless imagination, the Galvin Cello Quartet redefines what chamber music can be. Making its Vancouver debut, this extraordinary young ensemble brings a fresh and electrifying voice to one of chamber music’s most distinctive formations.

From opera overtures and Romantic variations to song transcriptions and beloved melodies, this colourful program reveals the astonishing versatility of the cello quartet. The sparkling exuberance of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro Overture and the dramatic flair of Bizet’s Carmen sit alongside the lyrical beauty of Massenet, Bellini, and Britten. Brilliant variations by Beethoven and Paganini, together with arrangements crafted by the quartet itself, showcase the boundless possibilities of four equal voices in conversation.

Praised by Arnold Steinhardt of the Guarneri String Quartet as musicians whose performances as a group are “glorious,” the Galvin Cello Quartet has quickly emerged as one of today’s most exciting young chamber ensembles. Following top prizes at the Fischoff and Victor Elmaleh Competitions and an appointment to the Concert Artists Guild roster, the quartet has captivated audiences across North America with its virtuosity, creativity, and infectious energy.

A rare opportunity to experience one of the classical world’s most dynamic young ensembles, Beyond the Expected is a celebration of imagination, transformation, and the limitless expressive possibilities of the cello quartet.
